What is Local Food?

Local food is food grown, harvested or caught in your local area – either fresh food like potatoes, strawberries, honey or salmon or processed food like jam, bread or cheese where the ingredients have been grown locally.

So we think of our local area between the Forth and the Tweed – roughly speaking Lothian and Borders and about a 50 mile radius from Peebles.

How local is local?

For us, local means the ‘bio-region’ – the bit of Scotland we naturally belong to in terms of geography (rivers, hills and sea).
